Anthrax as a Natural Curse and Dangerous Biological Weapon

Several cases of cruelty of terrorists are still remembered among those who were terrified by the white envelopes sent to countries that took active part in the war of Afghanistan. What that deadly packages carried, were the spores of anthrax that caused one of the most terrible diseases existing. We know the saying that lack of information does not release from responsibility, so it is better to know all the details about the malady to discover it on time. Anthrax is a disease existing among animals, cattle and sheep in particular. Nevertheless it can be transferred to a human being if he or she is in direct contact with an infected animal. The regions of great danger are South and Central America, South and Eastern Asia, Africa and several countries of the Middle East. The symptoms show up in less than a week after being infected.

To disclose the symptoms of anthrax we have to know the ways the infection spreads. One of the possible ways to get infected is to get spores onto one’s skin. At first it looks a bit shrunk, lacks moisture and looks irritated. Then a bump appears to develop into the ulcer. An ulcer looks like an ordinary skin disease, but if to take a closer look, it has a black area in the center of the ulcer. The only way to avoid lethal case is to run for help to hospital and not to try self-treatment. Another case of being infected is to inhale the spores that go down to the patient’s airway. First symptoms are very much similar to those a person has when suffering from influenza. But then people have difficulties with breathing and shock, similar to one epileptic have. If the person has been intestinally infected, the symptoms are similar to an indigestion problem but then the complications get severe and the lethal case proceeds. There is only one way to avoid the horrible end and that is to do the vaccination.

Some of the profession representatives have it regularly and fined if haven’t had it. The vaccine was introduced n the US first and released for use only in the 70’s. People like butchers, farmers, veterinarians have to do vaccination regularly. Now the main task of the UN is to provide countries of the third world that have problems with anthrax with vaccination to save people from horrible death. Diseases like anthrax are used as a biological weapon by terrorists and during wars that is the cruelest way of assassination that is absolutely inhumane. To have the shield from the weapon we have to use our knowledge and our concern.

Applying For Scholarship Grants For Nursing School

Scholarship Defined

Scholarships can be confusing for parents, but they can save them thousands of dollars. There are different forms of scholarships, but all of them are essentially gifted money for college. Unlike loans, scholarships don't have to be repaid. Some scholarships are paid to the student, while others go directly to the university. Scholarships are awarded by government, clubs, charities, businesses, schools, and other organizations.

Who can get scholarships?

Scholarship isn't limited to straight-A students, and many students who believe that they aren't academically qualified fail to apply for scholarships in their schools. There are, however, different types of scholarships for all students, including those with less-than-perfect academic records. There are athletic scholarships, scholarships aimed at students in a particular field of study -- why, some providers give scholarships just for living in a particular state or city. Another misconception about scholarship is that only college-bound high school seniors are allowed to apply for awards. Scholarship is available to all levels of college study, from freshmen undergrads to graduate and even PhD students.

Scholarship Grants for Nursing Students

There are four types of financial aid available to meet the educational expenses of nursing students: scholarships, grants, work study and education loans. Most nursing students use a combination of all four to fund their education.

Scholarships are awarded based on everything from special abilities to your religion. There are many sources of scholarships, and an Internet search should uncover a number of scholarship providers.

Here's how to get the scholarship you want:

• Take initiative

If you want to a scholarship, you'll need to do the legwork yourself – no one's going to track you down just to give you a scholarship. Look for scholarship grants whose criteria you meet, and then contact the provider and request a scholarship application packet. Applications may be requested by e-mail by sending in a self-addressed stamped envelope. You'll never get a scholarship if you don't try, so be proactive in requesting information for yourself.

• Be punctual

All scholarships providers set deadlines to which you must adhere, or else you'll lose any chance of getting the scholarship. Don’t miss the deadlines – if you can submit all the required materials before the due date, do so.

• Be organized

Good organizational skills can really pay off. Try to keep your applications ordered by deadline date and give yourself plenty of time to complete the applications and send them in before the due date. Always keep letters of recommendation and transcripts on hand so you don’t have to get new copies every time they are required for an application. By doing this, you'll not only save time but also money. Create copies of your completed applications before you send them in and then file them in folders with labels containing the deadline dates, mailing addresses and phone numbers of the scholarship provider. Call before the deadline to see if your scholarship application was received. If your application was lost in the mail, you can send the extra copy that you made.

• Be persistent

Don’t expect for the scholarship process to happen overnight. You must be diligent about looking for new scholarships to apply for. Remember that the more applications you send to various scholarship providers, the better is chance of obtaining a scholarship.

• Be optimistic

Stay positive about yourself and your chances of getting a scholarship. Your hard work and the time spent searching for scholarships will eventually pay off.

Aptitude Tests

If you seem a little lost and don’t seem to know what you want to do with the rest of your life, or if you are perhaps looking for a career change, you may want to take some aptitude tests to see where your interest might lie, and what you might be good at in the future.

Aptitude tests will show where you might be best suited to work. They can tell what you do the best, and that can be a huge hint for you if you don’t know what to do next. They can also point out your natural strengths, and you might find that aptitude tests tell you things about yourself that you never knew. You may find that you are good at one particular thing, and you can take that information into consideration when making decisions.

The best thing about aptitude tests is that there are no wrong answers. The answers tell things about you, but you really can’t answer them the wrong way. If you are honest about your answers, you will learn things to help you, and that is why they are so wonderful. If you have a scientific mind, these types of tests will point that out for you, even if you had no idea you might be good at such endeavors. If you have good people skills, this information will show up on aptitude tests as well.

You may be asked to take aptitude tests in high school, and this can be one of the smartest things you can do for your future. Many kids don’t know what they want to do, and taking aptitude tests can help give them some ideas. It’s not always easy to know where you want to go, and choosing a career and a college is a huge step. If you have a little guidance to help you, you are going to be better of in the long run. If you aren’t offered these tests, do be afraid to ask if they have any you can take if you are feeling lost, confused, and unsure. There is nothing like a little guidance to give you the confidence you need to move into the future.

Are You Stressed by Studying for Exams? Study More Efficiently!

Whether you are learning a new language or a subject like geography, these simple tips could save you hours of study time - and result in higher marks.

HIGHLIGHTING FUNDAMENTALS

You have probably used highlighters in textbooks and study notes; but are you getting the most out of them?

To learn anything, you must repeat the material. You go over it again - and again -  and again. Then when you are confident that you have learned the information, you progress to more studying. However, this repetition process also means that you are wasting time going over facts and information you already know.

Don't do it!

After you have learned about 80% of the material, use a yellow highlighter to mark everything that has eluded you. Next time through, concentrate on only the yellow areas. Try the memorization process a few more times until you have absorbed about 80% of the yellow text. Then do it again, marking over top of the yellow with a pink highlighter. This produces an orange shade. Spend more time memorizing everything with orange highlights.

This highlighting process produces three sections:

 * Easy - no highlighting

 * Moderately difficult - yellow highlighting

 * Difficult - orange highlighting

The closer you get to an exam, the more time you should spend on the orange areas. They are your personal stumbling blocks. The 5%-10% of unknown material usually causes 95% or more of exam errors.

MAGNETISM - AND NOT THE PERSONAL KIND!

A magnetic metal clipboard can be a useful studying tool. If you don't have one, you can use a small magnetic dry-erase board and a bulldog clip. You will also need a small refrigerator magnet (the flat business-card type that is distributed by dentists and plumbers).

Clip a page of study notes onto the board and use the fridge magnet to cover the answers. If the telephone rings or you are distracted by raiding the fridge for a snack, the magnet will keep track of your place on the page.

Experiment to see how many pages you can clip onto the board at one time before the magnet refuses to stick. You might be able to work with a pile of 5 or more sheets. Go through the first one, put it on the bottom of the pile, and proceed to the next.

After exams are finished, you can recycle photocopies or printouts by turning them over and using the other side of each page. You might even want to make your own notepads.

Carefully line up a stack of paper. Lay the stack on the edge of a table or desk and set a couple of heavy books on top. Use notepad glue or white glue to paint the ends. Once the glue dries, remove the books and separate the pile into manageable notepads.

Article Submission Software ? Should We Submit Articles With Software?

Article submission software ? people always ask if they are really useful in article marketing. To paraphrase that, what online marketers really want to know is whether there truly are merits in using them to submit articles. The truth is there are two schools of thinking about using article submission software. As usual, there are those who do not believe it works while another group can vouch to its effectiveness. Why don?t we have a quick look at the workings of the article submission software before we decide if we should submit articles with them?

Article submission software in recent years have been emerging as a tool to replace manual submission. When I first started online marketing, I wrote articles and submit manually to these article directories like GoArticles, HotLib and a few other popular article directories. It often takes me more than a few hours to submit to more than a dozen article directories. There was the log in, followed by sieving through the article submission form, copying and pasting my article title, article body, article summary, relevant keywords and author resource boxes. Every article directory has a different interface, and very often I have to customize and twitch a little bit here and there. Trust me and those who have experienced all these, it is tough job and sweat. Okay, so here I have an article ready to be published after one day?s hard work including the writing. This is manual article submission done all without article submission software.

That was a typical scenario most early day article marketers and authors have to face just a couple of years back. Today, the landscape has changed with the emergence of article submission software. The great thing about the functions of article submission software is it makes the log in and article formatting for each individual article directory so fast and so easy. Some article submission software are semi-automatic which requires you to click from one article directory to another to post. Others which are more advanced requires just the click of a button and off it goes to different article directories to post. In terms of speed and efficiency, such article submission software definitely makes the submission a breeze. As a result, we have more time to write quality articles.

If we can stick to writing an article and posting it to 100 article directories a day manually without article submissions software, we can really gain a great deal of exposure for our websites be it a business or hobby site. With so many submissions, we are putting our content before hundreds to thousands of eyeballs everyday. But the problem is we only have 24 hours and taking away time for sleep, meals and breaks, there are only a few hours to do that. We are limited in our time. With article submission software, it allows people to write more and post more each day. Instead of one article to 100 directories manually, we are talking about potentially, several articles to few 100s of article directories.

There is another twist to using article submission software. Search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN are constantly ranking websites or for accuracy purpose, web pages according to link popularity. Article directories are high Page Rank sites and links from these directories count as powerful one-way links. So how do we get these article directories to link to our websites? The answer is to submit articles! Articles are contextual content relevant to our websites and links from these articles to our websites are valuable because of the anchor text keywords we are targeting to rank high in the search engines. Article submission software can submit to many article directories and in just a few days, the number of high PR links to your site would increase.

There are alternatives to using article submission software such as using article submission services like Article Marketer, iSnare and others to submit articles. But they charge you either monthly or for per article submitted. Unless you have a huge advertising budget or enough money to pour into these services, buying an article submission software would be a wiser choice since the payment is one-time. Typically, quality article submission software would cost around $99 onwards.

From the look of it, it does make sense to submit articles with article submission software. Many article marketers including myself have reaped in thousands of dollars from sales by using such software. Read a review of several popular article submission software marketers have in their marketing arsenal.

Aspen Learning Content Management Server: Taking e-Learning to the Next Level

Who talked about elearning 30 years ago? This was an unknown word even in the education world. The education field and the various education methods have changed so radically the recent years that if a  teacher from the late sixties were able to step into the future and access todays world of education without knowing what has happened, would probably believe he or she had arrived at another planet.  Companies around the world today compete to bring products and technologies to market faster than ever before.  The global economy means that delaying by even a few weeks can mean the difference between market leader and market follower.  To train a global workforce about new products and skills needed to compete in the global marketplace more and more organizations are turning to using online education delivery systems such as the Aspen Learning Content Management Server system.  This fully integrated, online learning or educational system allows content to be delivered, measured and managed worldwide at the click of a button.

With a workforce that can be spread across multiple continents, and ever-decreasing budgets for travel and training, companies are turning to online content delivery systems to bring training to the employees without worrying about travel or instructor expenses.  Utilizing such systems an organization can tailor learning needs to the individual employee, department or organizational goal.  A training module can be customized based on the role the employee plays in the organization and what level of training they will need to fulfill their responsibility in the entire life-cycle of the product.

Online instruction is also a benefit to employees, in addition to the cost-savings benefit to the company.  Studies show that employees who receive regular training or more satisfied with their job and by offering online courses the employee can schedule training for when it is convenient for them - be it during the day, in the evening or the weekends.

Athletics Are the Right Track to Scholastic Success

This year, the nation's largest amateur track series begins its 31st season as young female athletes compete in the Colgate Women's Games.

More than 11,000 girls and women, from first grade to post-college age, will compete in the weekly events at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y., for the chance to qualify for the finals at Madison Square Garden in February. Track competitors across the nation can measure their performances against some of the best talent in their age and grade divisions.

Seventeen former Olympians and hundreds of national record-holders have competed in the games, which aim to give girls and women an outlet where they can develop self-esteem and learn sportsmanship.

The Colgate Women's Games also instill the importance of educational achievement. All participants are required to submit their school attendance records along with an essay on a peer-related topic.

Each week, participants have the opportunity to win numerous ribbons and medals. In addition, finalists are awarded trophies and educational grants-in-aid.

"Thousands of former participants have continued on through college and successful careers," said meet director Fred Thompson. "They inevitably return to tell us that the games had such a significant impact on their lives."

The Colgate Women's Games, which officially open the women's indoor track season, have become a national proving ground, annually setting the pace for the season. Participants, primarily from the East Coast, travel to New York from as far as Boston and Virginia.

"Our girls are among the most heavily recruited female athletes by colleges and universities across the country," Thompson said. "Thousands have received college scholarships from their schools and earned financial help with tuition and supplies from their Colgate grants."

Atkins Funds Teachers Union

The National Education Association, the nation's largest teachers union, has said "yes" to moulah made on diets that say "no" to many fruits and vegetables.

Atkins announced that it was joining forces with the National Education Association to educate children about nutrition, in part by sponsoring a school health Web site.

Or, as Greg Toppo put it so well in his USA Today account of the deal: "The folks who brought back three-egg omelets and triple cheeseburgers want to teach your kids a thing or two about health, nutrition and exercise."

When more than half of kids go without fruit on any given day, and childhood obesity has made this generation the first with a shorter life expectancy than their parents, what kids should be learning is that a diet low in saturated and trans fats and rich in fruits and vegetables is the foundation for preventing disease and maintaining a healthy weight.

Instead, they'll receive a "nutrition" message bankrolled by dollars earned selling a high-fat, low-fruit diet. Atkins claims it only wants to provide the NEA with "the latest research and information available on controlled-carbohydrate nutrition."

Really? Do you suppose that will include the research just published in The Lancet regarding the battery of negative side-effects - headaches, muscle fatigue, foul breath, constipation - suffered by Atkins dieters? What about the recent MIT research that suggests that low-carb dieting can cause serotonin levels to plummet? Or the Mayo Clinic survey linking a marked increase in saturated fat intake over the past five years with the Atkins craze? I don't think so.

If the Atkins folks thought that using educators to carry their low-carb message would be easy, then they were in for a rude awakening. The Partnership for Essential Nutrition - a coalition of consumer, nutrition and public health groups - has launched a letter-writing campaign to demand the immediate cancellation of the NEA-Atkins deal. The partnership warned that "there are very real dangers to children if they were to adopt a low-carb diet because the brain requires 130 grams of glucose a day for normal functioning, a quantity of carbohydrates that even the maintenance level of the Atkins diet does not deliver."

Sad to say, the NEA gets a big fat "F" when it comes to taking a responsible stand on children's nutritional needs, though we'll give 'em a bright red "A" for Atkins when it comes to irresponsibly taking money made on diets that disregard such needs.

But maybe the unions aren't so much irresponsible as indifferent. As Albert Shanker, the late, great crusader for teachers' labor rights once observed: "I'll start representing kids when kids start paying union dues." Which raises the question once again: Just whose interests is the NEA representing?

Attention College Students and Writers: Ask and Answer Questions for Knowledge Creation and Sharing Online

A new trend that has recently become popular online is knowledge sharing. Specific Web services are bringing together professionals, writers, and college students to create a vast knowledge base, special knowledge-sharing communities, and questions and answers that can benefit anyone in any field. And the best news of all is these sites are usually free for everyone to enjoy. It's like having a live encyclopedia of experts at one's fingertips!

A collaborative, question-driven knowledge system compiles questions and answers on thousands of topics, organizes the topics, and provides easy access to the knowledge base for users. College students benefit because they learn about a variety of topics or may contribute what they know. They can also form communities for those with similar interests so they can work together to create a reliable source of information on specific topics.

Writers enjoy many benefits as well. They can write on topics of interest and share their knowledge with others. Writers can also use the knowledge base as a source of research for their work. A question-driven knowledge system enables writers, college students, and others to ask questions on topics that do not yet appear. Then an expert in that particular field can provide a reliable, knowledgeable answer. It's a quick, easy way to get the research needed for books, articles, essays, term papers, and editorial writings.

How the "Share and Create" System Works

A properly-operated knowledge site will work smoothly and provide easy search mechanisms for finding questions and answers. Users won't have to worry about redundant questions. Some sites will provide a bookmark feature so questions can be saved for future reference or for update notifications. Other features that are beneficial include a discussion forum that is separate from the knowledge base, community-building features, and the ability to check the editing history of a question or of a contributor.

A knowledge-based create-and-share website may offer incentives for contributions such as free advertising or ads revenue sharing. These benefits will increase more and more as the knowledge base grows and attracts new college students, writers, and professionals. The advertising is usually targeted, based on the questions and answers that are contributed, so users get free exposure to their targeted audience.

Research Topics on Anything and Everything

Though the question and answer system on a knowledge-driven site is usually very well organized and targeted, it is also being expanded on a daily basis to cover thousands of topics. The topics might be about anything, including gardening, parenting, pets, gas mileage, mortgages, health, beauty, interest rates, travel, medical, science, and water conservation. That's why so many college students and writers find this type of service useful. They often research a variety of topics on a regular basis, so this system provides one source for all around the clock.

With a high-quality, question-driven knowledge system, college students and writers are able to share their interests and knowledge with others as well as get the answers they need through this unique system. It provides a two-fold benefit for all those who ask and answer questions for knowledge creation and sharing.
